Evaluation of Stargate SG-1 episode articles[edit]

Note: All seasons have episode-specific companion guides and some other analytic literature. Beginning with Season 4, all but 4 episodes ("It's Good To Be King" and "Citizen Joe" in Region 2, "Threads", "Bad Guys") have audio commentaries. Beginning with Season 5, TV Zone[1] devoted two out of its 7 specials per year to Stargate (~70 pages or more; with interviews, individual episode previews and reviews). Beginning with Season 6, about six episodes per season have specific DVD episode featurettes (but as far as I checked, they are pretty bad as a source for encyclopedic coverage). Beginning with Season 8, an official Stargate Magazine[2] is/was published. Producer Joe Mallozzi blogs since Season 8. Most post-season-3 episodes have received at least some independent coverage, and I expect that the majority of them could reach Good Article status if someone really put some effort into them. Still, almost all SG episode articles are really poor from an encyclopedic standpoint, and although I have worked on three ("200" which User:David Fuchs took to GA and FA, "Zero Hour" which I took to GA, "Window of Opportunity" which I intend to take to GA sometime), there has been no progress on the articles in the past few months as per Recent Changes, so I hereby open an episode article review to get some work done in one way or another. As the SG-1 episode articles already got transwikiied (a link is next to each episode's name), there is little reason to keep their duplicates around here if they won't be improved. In the case that someone wishes to work on an article after the fact, redirection (not deletion) allows an article to be resurrected at any time without bureaucracy. The idea is to cut the poor content (mainly WP:NOT#PLOT, which concerns most episode articles for most television shows), to refocus on the articles that really deserve time-consuming encyclopedic expansion. The first transwiki sweep was intended as a rough selection, and obviously, 50 episode articles are still much more than what can be expected to be improved at this time, and I still have the season articles to take care of. I will leave the Atlantis episodes alone like before, although a review may come up for them as well at some point in the future.

No actions will be taken about the episode articles at this time for several reasons. The current arbcom case has placed an injunction on all episode articles regarding their tagging and redirecting; I expect the case to be over in about 10 days. Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) was updated/rewritten to include television episode articles, and the guideline seems to have major support now that it will likely no longer be regarded as disputed (the disputed tag was removed this morning, but you never know). Furthermore, there is an RfC for the TV episode guideline, but discussions have stopped at the moment. You can get a "quick" overview here, and although it suggests a strong disagreement at first glance, it can also be argued that the disagreement is (mostly) in technical details, not in the root. The result of the RfC will determine whether to resume discussions (very likely), start an episode review sweep for all TV shows (possible or even likely), merge one part of the guideline into Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) and move the other part to a MOS subpage of Wikipedia:WikiProject Television (possible), or abandon the guideline and allow episode articles for all shows (unlikely).

I have listed all remaining SG-1 episode articles below, including a (my) short evaluation what would count for and against keeping each article. I then added my recommendation (keep, suspend, redirect, volunteer for improvement) accordingly. Note that keeps and suspends are only worth something if there is an objective chance of improvement and/or notability. If participation is low in this review, I regard that as silent agreement for redirection of all concerned articles. One or two months should be enough time for this review. Also, the policies and guidelines will be much clearer then (I hope), so this review will just be a head start. If it should turn out that episode articles will be allowed for all shows, this review will of course be moot, but I don't think this will happen.
