Ohio townships[edit]

Thanks for your message! Let me ask: what sources have you been using? If you've been using sources that are online, please put links to them on my talk page, and I can help you do well with them; if they're offline, please explain what basically they are. The first thing I'd ask you to read is WP:OR — sorry to say, your own research isn't good enough by itself for Wikipedia, which wants reliable sources for information. If I understand you rightly, you're basing your information on Census Bureau information, which is very reliable. If your Census source lists all the townships of 1910 and all the townships of 1920, it might be reasonable to note something about that. You might want to say something like that the name was first listed by the Census in 1920 and that some other name was last listed in 1910, and that all the other township names were similar. By so saying, you'd be sticking to the sources and helping to improve Wikipedia. Remember: if you have any questions, I'll be happy to try to answer. Nyttend (talk) 23:39, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now I'm confused: why do you say that the evidence is indirect, since it's in the records? This is entirely sufficient, and in no way does it constitute what Wikipedia calls original research. What you should do, assuming that you want to restore the text, is to write the text in the article and follow it with a link (formatted just as you linked on my talk page). That's not the best format, but I can get it into the proper format, and if you want to see how properly to format such links, you can see one way to do it. I guess you didn't need help. Great job! Nyttend (talk) 18:53, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
