The opening paragraph is a bit long and dense. Help?

Citing an Example[edit]

I'm just an amateur audio enthusiast, but since the opening sentence says "usually higher" frequencies are involved I'm concerned the reader might be confused by presenting the RIAA curve as an example of pre-emphasis. RIAA equalization cuts lower frequencies to limit the vinyl groove width, rather than improving signal/noise ratio by reducing high-frequency hiss.

A better example might be the Dolby audio cassette standard, which pre-emphasizes high frequencies during recording to achieve noise reduction. Not to plug Dolby, of course. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ASarnat (talkcontribs) 19:46, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
