The vast majority of these LGAs were linked to towns or suburbs. LGAs are not the same as the towns and suburbs that they contain. They have different boundaries, and in fact they also have different names. For example the gazetted name of the LGA for Mandurah is "City of Mandurah", whereas the town itself is named "Mandurah".

I have changed the links to their correct titles. This has created rather a lot of redlinks, but that is entirely appropriate, since we really don't have articles on these LGAs. In some cases, such as Leonora, Western Australia, there has been an attempt to cover both town and LGA in the same article. I have no objection to these being linked to until we get around to rolling out separate LGA articles. But we really shouldn't be making LGA links to articles that don't discuss the LGA at all.

Also, many of the town and suburb articles have been tagged into the LGA category, even though they don't actually contain any information about the LGA. These tags need to be removed.

Do you think that all LGA's are sufficiently notable that they'll ever have their own articles? Realistically I can't see that the Shire of Mukinbudin will ever have anything that's not in Mukinbudin, Western Australia (and I note it already mentions the Road Board there). In those cases I would be inclined to make Shire of Mukinbudin a redirect to Mukinbudin, Western Australia, but only after Mukinbudin, Western Australia actually contains some information about the shire. Hesperian 06:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, from reading the article, the history of the area itself goes back the 1870s but the town wasn't gazetted until 1922. The stuff on the roads board is about the LGA rather than the town, as is the places of interest section. Probably also the people section. The vast majority of the material in the article more properly belongs at Shire of Mukinbudin. It is the town article that would be short of info: all this article tells us about the town is its location and when it was gazetted. Hesperian 06:16, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Ocean territories[edit]

Are the two territories part of Western Australia, as according to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands Act of 1955 and the Christmas Island Act of 1958? — Instantnood 15:38, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You need to read the two articles carefully - Cocos is connected electorally to Northern Territory, while Christmas to Western Australia - but as external territories - they really are not part of either unit - but are territories under commonwealth supervision - ie Canberra. Christmas Island is also Northern Territory for electoral purposes. But for judicial purposes both external territories seem to be subjected to the laws of the state of Western Australia. Correct me if I'm wrong. — Instantnood 17:13, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
