The result of the move request was: Move. Jafeluv (talk) 21:39, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

– I was going to move this page to "Lee Kang-seok" per WP:NC-KO#Given names, which says "If there is no personal preference, and no established English spelling, hyphenate the syllables, with only the first syllable capitalized (e.g., Hong Gil-dong)". However, there was a redirect in the way, so I tagged the redirect with the db-move template. Anthony Bradbury removed the tag with the comment "housekeeping". When asked why, he thought the move was "unnecessary", as people would find the article anyway. Personally, I thought we should follow guidelines – so I'm now initiating this good faith move discussion with a batch of South Korean speed skaters. General comment: Speedskatingstats.com has them at Lee Kang-seok, Bae Ki-tae, Baek Eun-bi, Choi Jae-bong, Jaegal Sung-yeol, Kim Bo-reum, Kim Yoo-rim, Lee Bo-ra, Lee Ju-yeon, Lee Ki-ho, Lee Kyou-hyuk, Lee Seung-hoon, Mo Tae-bum, Park Do-yeong, Yeo Sang-Yeop, and Yoo Sun-hee, respectively. As you can see, the spelling differs slightly for four of them: Jegal Sung-Yeol versus Jaegal Sung-yeol, Kim Yu-Rim versus Kim Yoo-rim, Lee Ju-Youn versus Lee Ju-yeon, and Yoo Seon-Hee versus Yoo Sun-hee. The same source lists Yeo Sang-Yeop with both syllables capitalized. I couldn't find Lee Jong-Woo there. Found Lee Jong-woo now. Unless and until I find other sources contradicting this, I'm contemplating modifying the RM accordingly. HandsomeFella (talk) 10:15, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - personally I don't like it but The Korea Times The Korea Herald and Korea JoongAng Daily all do it, so the WP:NC-KO#Given names is following the most evident English sources. (I can see where both your good self and Anthony are coming from in terms of tech move btw) In ictu oculi (talk) 04:26, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The proposed form is the way the South Korean press has been doing it for a long time. AP, New York Times and other style pacesetters adopted it sometime around 2008. The Times is even calling the North Korean president "Kim Jong-un", although the NK news agency still uses the old format (Kim Jong Un). I don't think "Lee Kang-Seok" represents a standard format of any kind, just someone goofing up and miscapitalizing. Kauffner (talk) 05:39, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Procedural oppose this should be separated out into separate nominations, or atleast group those who are not internationally competitive apart, and separately list those who are internationally competitive. I object to the general statement that there is not English usage for those who are internationally competitive, especially with Olympic competitors, and those who have skated at the World Championships. Those should have a way to determine if they should be capitalized or not. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 07:08, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: It's practical to have the discussion in one place. You could always name the specific page that you object to being moved. HandsomeFella (talk) 10:15, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support I support the given name with only the first syllable capitalized. It have to be extend to all the Korean sportspeople. All upper case "LEE KANG-SEOK" on his uniform is not English usage. Sawol (talk) 07:18, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
