U.S. Committee for European Refugees[edit]

I am interested in the above mentioned group who sponsored several hundred British children to come to the U.S. to escape the early bombings in Great Britain about 1942. They sent several ships with them. Organisation or Organization?[edit]

@Ebonelm: I am unsure why you moved the article back to the "Organisation" spelling. The official version of the treaty text of the constitution of the org consistently spells it "Organization": [1]. The "Organization" spelling is also consistent with general UN practice, which is to use Oxford spelling in English-language names and documents. What sources were you referring to when you wrote that the s-spelling is "used in official sources"? (I know of one official document where the s-spelling is used: [2]. This is the treaty in the UK's treaty series. A few years ago I moved the article to the s-spelling with the understanding that the UK version was a faithful reproduction of the official English-language treaty text. It turns out it was not, and the UK changed the spelling to reflect UK government usage.)

Not only the official name considerations, but: (1) All of the sources currently linked to on the article use the z-spelling; and (2) In google books, I get about 53,000 hits for "International Refugee Organization", and about 8,000 for "International Refugee Organisation". Google scholar searches yields a similar preference for the z-spelling. Good Ol’factory ^(talk) 22:51, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
