Untitled[edit]

Can someone make a proper pretty taxobox for this? Vicki Rosenzweig

Hi, I would like to suggest the merging of Shapi to this article based on this link, http://www.indiaenvironmentportal.org.in/node/18764?quicktabs_2=1 , which lists the Shapi as a subspecies of Himalayan Tahr. More of this discussion can be be found on the shapi page. 69.247.14.191 (talk) 00:09, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion: merge with article about Shapi?[edit]

There are no reliable references in this article about Shapi, but only external links to websites that either do not allow access, or provide advertisement but NO information about this animal. So definitely against merging! -- BhagyaMani (talk) 09:13, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merge only to get rid of an almost empty article, though I do agree the aforementioned article has so little real information that it's probably pointless so I suggest delete/removal of article and maybe make a note on the Himalayan Tahr article that it's known as "Shapi" in some locales. 2601:5C1:100:28BD:DDA0:40A9:213:98B9 (talk) 01:25, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Shapi for deletion [1], as I cannot find any reliable sources describing this as a recognized subspecies.--Elmidae (talk · contribs) 08:07, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Since nobody bothered about shapi in such a long time, I won't protest when you delete it. Even without any note anywhere. But then in a few year's time, someone may want to re-create this page? -- BhagyaMani (talk) 08:52, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As per the outcome at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Shapi, or rather the lack of opposition there in combination with a) the existence of a valid former subspecies description and b) lack of current recognition of the subspecies and no good sources for the statements made in Shapi, I have merged a basic note into this article and redirected Shapi to Himalayan tahr.--Elmidae (talk · contribs) 10:20, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bucks, rams, bulls etc. ?[edit]

Are male tahrs called bucks (like male goats), rams (like male sheep), bulls or stags?

Are female tahrs called does (like female goats), ewes (like female sheep), cows or hinds?

Are juvenile tahrs called kids (like juvenile goats), lambs (like juvenile sheep), calves or fawns?

Citation for a statement?[edit]

Is there a suitable citation for the following statement under New Zealand/Current control methods? "The fact that the tahr is no longer viewed by general public as an unwanted species may indicate their numbers are now successfully reduced to an acceptable range" Noracrentiss (talk) 06:01, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Citation not found for this statement and edits made to the section on New Zealand to add other citations and update with 2020 court case.Gertrude206 (talk) 22:48, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Diet section makes statement unsupported by given reference[edit]

The article states: "[The Himalayan tahr's] short legs allow it to balance while reaching for the leaves of shrubs and small trees." The citation given, reference 10, is an archived page on an ungulate-dedicated website which does not actually corroborate the claim made in our article. It mentions both that the tahr's legs are relatively short and that its diet contains leaves, but does not itself connect these facts. TheOwlGuy (talk) 12:20, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
