The "Stadt" thing[edit]

The introduction;

Fehmarn (Danish: Femern) is an island and - since 2003 - a town on this island in the Baltic Sea...

This is confusing; suddenly, in 2003, a town named Fehmarn materialised on the island of Fehmarn!? I get the gist of it from the German page, but to non-Germans ears it sounds odd that an entire island suddenly becomes a "town". I know Stadt translates to town in its direct sense, but in English you would not use town to describe an entire area of consisting of several separate "smallish urban areas" inbetween cornfields. I suggest we add a short paragraph to explain how and why the entire island of Fehmarn is a "town". -- 90.184.243.14 (talk) 09:21, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify this (what's seven years among friends?): Fehmarn has always been an island, the main village is called "Burg auf Fehmarn". What happend in 2003 is simply that the villages and hamlets on the island joined and formed a common administration. Since then there is "Fehmarn (the island)" and "Fehmarn (the town)" covering the same area.Nico b. (talk) 21:01, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
