Improve the article[edit]

Hello to everybody following this article. I personally updated the article about Esperantujo in the Esperanto Wikipedia, and remarked than there and on the French Wikipedia, the number of visits rised a lot, obviously because readers want to know what is happening in Esperantujo. Is one of you able to add info or even - best - translate the Esperanto article into yours? This way, it would help improve the visibility of Esperanto. Thanks a lot! — SGC.Alex (talk) 16:47, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Somewhere in the Population section, could someone tell me please, what is the population? How many people speak Esperanto? Has any statistician come up with an estimate? TIA Twixter (talk) 18:35, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Twixter: Estimates have been given, but they vary so widely (from 100,000 to 2,000,000 depending whom you ask) that I wouldn't put too much faith in them: to my mind, the high value is extremely optimistic and the low value is a minimum minimorum. I suppose that failing more provable estimates, a geometric mean (i.e. multiply the high estimate by the low estimate and take the square root of the result) might give a sensible but not too reliable rule-of-thumb estimate. The problem is that you can learn Esperanto by reading Teach Yourself Esperanto in English, L'Espéranto sans peine in French, similar books (including Zamenhof's The International Language and its translations) in other languages, or by visiting an online course or an Esperanto club, and that there's no central register of people having learnt Esperanto this way, including from hand-me-down copies of the above-mentioned family of coursebooks. — Tonymec (talk) 00:55, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Religion in Esperantujo[edit]

It has become standard on Wikipedia to have independent articles on the presence and influence of particular religions or philosophies in particular countries (e.g. Islam in France, Christianity in China, Scientology in Australia, Bahá'í Faith in Sweden). I have been wondering if it would be appropriate to create articles on the presence and influence of particular religions or philosophies in Esperantujo. I know Esperantujo is not a country per se, but it is a community of people where certain religions and philosophies are more common than others. The following are some of the articles that could be created: Islam in Esperantujo, Christianity in Esperantujo, Catholicism in Esperantujo, Bahá'í Faith in Esperantujo, Oomoto in Esperantujo, and Atheism in Esperantujo. I think this would give more credibility to the concept of Esperantujo, too, as it would make it clear that Esperantujo is an actual community of people with different cultures within it. Thoughts? Michipedian (talk) 20:17, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Michipedian: : Esperantists in general are extremely tolerant on the subject of religion: you have your own religion or you have none, I have mine or I have none, don't bother me about it and I won't bother you (though we may discuss them in a friendly manner). Zamenhof himself tried to promote an everyone's-religion he called homaranismo but I suppose he was too much ahead of his time; OTOH both the Baha'i faith and the Japanese Oomoto have expressed a positive attitude toward Esperanto, as can be seen IIRC in their respective Wikipedia articles, and the Pope regularly includes a part in Esperanto when he talks urbi et orbi, but I don't think there is enough subject matter for one separate article about each Religion X in Esperantujo for every possible Esperantists' creed. — Tonymec (talk) 01:08, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

List of Esperanto-contributors in Wikiepdia/vikipedio[edit]

Why not link to a page where people can find Esperanto-speakers as authors or/and translators of Wikipedia ? I can not find them here. --Alifono (talk) 15:50, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Better version of the Anthem[edit]

Does anybody know of a better/more modern/embellished version of the anthem which we could use on Wikipedia? The current one is kinda "meh", especially compared to other anthems. TucanHolmes (talk) 16:46, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

eo:La Espero uses the same sound recording; but there are at least three known scoresheets of it, namely one for one voice in B♭ major at the Esperanto Wikipedia, as well as one (two pages in PDF) for four voices in G major and one in A♭ major for singer and piano (or, of course, for unison choir with piano accompaniment) at Wikimedia Commons. — Tonymec (talk) 20:11, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
