Earendel (disambiguation)Earendel – In scholarship [1][2] the Tolkien topic is competitive with the Anglo-Saxon topic. Move the disambiguation page to base unaccented name, which is used for both topics (accented forms differ, and refer to either one or the other; both topics also have alternative spellings) . In news, there's the newly announced star with this name as well, that is all over the news, much more than either the Old English or Elvish term ever have been. -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 21:18, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nomination. There are five entries upon the Earendel (disambiguation) page, with no indication that the Earendel redirect to Aurvandill is of such primary nature that it dwarfs the combined notability of the remaining four entries. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 02:55, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Just for context, the star has been suggested as the primary topic on the basis of very high current newsworthiness, but its longterm notability is in doubt. The Tolkien character is actually called Eärendil, although the misspelling does redirect to an article about the character. Lithopsian (talk) 10:49, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • No, the Tolkien character was originally spelled as "Eärendel" in the oldest works, it was changed to "Eärendil" in later stories. There's a bunch of scholarly articles attesting to that -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 02:10, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Might be worth a mention in the article, especially with a hatnote at the top concerning that spelling. Lithopsian (talk) 14:37, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Further, there is a proposal to move WHL0137-LS over the redirect Earendel (star). That shouldn't prevent this move, but may be relevant since the star actually is called Earendel with no diacritics. Discussion is split so far, outcome unclear since the name is provisional and the longterm notability in some doubt. Lithopsian (talk) 14:28, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, given that literally none of the articles are at a title that is just the word "Earendel". BD2412 T 03:00, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • re:Lithopsian; I've updated the target Tolkien article with refs and the older spelling, and updated this dab page to reflect that. -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 21:46, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
