I removed the following statement from the article:

Recently 3ivx has come under suspicion of creating malware with their trial version of the 3ivx codec. On some machines uninstalling the 3ivx trial package causes errors in MP4 media players.

It seems someone who got mad to 3ivx for some reason tried to harm software company by adding wikipedic looking statements to codecs already not so detailed page. A single troubled users forum post can't be used as a reference. Forums are already for troubled users. It turns out on the referenced forum topic itself that 3ivx.dll is also used by 2 popular windows applications (WMP and Real 10) and uninstaller found those applications DLLs by mistake or because of OS problems on end users machine.

3ivx like many software companies seems to have different packages/licensing terms for each operating system. It turns out that Windows version does have a 50 encode limit but it is clearly stated on download page: http://www.3ivx.com/download/windows.html (Note: The Audio Encoder and Audio Decoder are restricted to 50 encodes or a maximum usage of 30 days.). I can't speak for company but it is very common for advanced codecs having very different license policies. As far as it is stated very openly right under download link,clear text,normal sized font, it is very childish abuse of Wiki which already lacks lots of professional,serious video information.
