Yuzvendra Chahal has taken the most wickets in IPL history.

The Indian Premier League is a Twenty20 competition in men's cricket. Organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the tournament has taken place every year since 2008. Seven teams have won a title since the beginning of the league, with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings both winning five titles.

Indian batsman and former national team captain Virat Kohli holds the record for the most runs scored and most centuries (seven) made in the league. Chris Gayle holds many other individual batting records including the highest-individual score in a match (175 runs from 66 balls), the most sixes scored (326), the most sixes in a match (17) and the fastest century (from 30 balls). Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record for the most wickets taken (187).[1]

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has scored the most runs in a match with a score of 277/3 against Mumbai Indians in 2024.[2].The second-highest score was set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India, making 263/5 in 2013. The highest successful run chase in the league's history was by Rajasthan Royals who chased a target of 224 set by Punjab Kings in 2020. RCB also scored the lowest total score, making a score of 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017.

By season

Out of the fifteen franchises that have played in the league, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the most successful teams in the league's history with five IPL titles, with Kolkata Knight Riders having won two titles. The four teams who have won the tournament once are Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans. The current champions are Chennai who beat defending champions Gujarat in the 2023 Indian Premier League final to clinch their fifth title.

Teams have won by ten wickets on 14 occasions. The first time this occurred was during the 2008 season when Deccan Chargers beat Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The most recent time a team won by ten wickets was in 2021 when Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Rajasthan Royals again at the Wankhede Stadium.[5]

Tied Matches

As of August 2023 matches have resulted in a tie on 14 occasions. The first time a match was tied in the league was during the 2009 season when Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals played in a match at Newlands in South Africa. The most recent tie occurred during the 2021 season when Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad played at Chennai.[6]

Centuries

Virat Kohli has scored the most individual centuries, with seven to his name.[15] Chris Gayle has scored six, including the fastest IPL century, passing the century mark in 30 balls on his way the highest score in the IPL, 175 not out made in 2013. Most runs scored from an over

As of August 2023 two players have scored 36 runs from an over in the IPL. Chris Gayle achieved the feat playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kochi Tuskers Kerala at Bangalore in 2011 and Ravindra Jadeja repeated it in 2021, playing for Chennai Super Kings against RCB at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In 2022 Pat Cummins scored 35 runs from an over for Kolkata Knight Riders against Mumbai Indians at Pune.[20]

Amit Mishra is the only bowler to have taken three IPL hat-tricks[citation needed]

As of August 2023 22 hat-tricks have been taken in IPL matches. The feat was first achieved by Lakshmipathy Balaji in a 2008 match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings at Chennai.[23] The most recent hat-trick in the league was taken in 2023 by Rashid Khan playing for Gujarat Titans against Kolkata Knight Riders at Ahmedabad[24]

Most dismissals in an innings

As of August 2023 only Kumar Sangakkara has taken five wicket-keeping dismissals in an innings in the IPL. He did so for Deccan Chargers against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a 2011 match at Hyderabad. A number of wicket-keepers have taken four dismissals in an innings.[28]

As of August 2023 Mohammad Nabi is the only non-wicket-keeper to hold five catches in an IPL match, doing so for Sunrisers Hyderabad in a 2021 match against Mumbai Indians at Abu Dhabi. A number of players have held four catches in an IPL match.[31]
