Technically this is a queen SWARM cell because it is located at the bottom of the frame. Queen SUPERCEDURE cells are always located higher in the frames or colony roughly the center of the frame or towards the top near where the brood position is. Emergency cells are located in roughly the same location as the supercedure cells, but are often smaller. Emergency cells are utilized by the hive when a queen is dead, lost, or severely injured and needs immediate replacement. They are often 'hurried' and not as large as normal supercedure cells are. Swarm cells are utilized when the hive is crowded, diseased, and preparing to swarm. They are always located at the bottom of the cell. Beekeepers do not use the term 'emergency supercedure' together. It is either a swarm or supercedure situation. This photo title needs to be changed to 'swarm queen cell' from 'emergency supercedure cell' to be accurate nomenclature. 97.113.47.195 (talk) 23:34, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
