This should be changed as soon as possible; the symbol of Anarchy with the legs and crossbar of the A branching outside the circle is the one best known to the public... also, the spirit of anarchy is denied in this image. the circle represents authority, and the lines away represent that anarchy is outside of society. -- It is now, I changed it .. oh woops .. thought this was the talk-page for the page where the symbol appears .. this one is more common, and better reflects the anti-authority idea of 'anarchy' in a graphic form .. some people may prefer it over this 'super-neat' thing. -- ~~

shouldnt the line go ll the way through, thats how i always draw my anarchy symbols —Preceding unsigned comment added by DannyQuack (talkcontribs) 22:01, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yah, it should. still, at least it's recognisable AS an anarchy symbol. Techo (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 20:21, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm not happy about this symbol at all, the "A" staying within the confines of the circle seems to defy the whole spirit of anarchism. If you do a Google Image search on "anarchy" or "anarchy symbol", you'll see that practically all the symbols have "A"s going outside the circle (except for the ones lifted off Wikipedia, that is...) -- Agreed, and "anarchy" means to ignore rule by authority, which means to ignore precedence as an authority, and ignore the status-quo as an authority, so if you feel like changing the symbol, you should feel free to do so .. any insistence on a definitive 'symbol of anarchy' is counter to anarchy ... and therefore, lacks authority in an authority-centric tradition such as the one which has emerged here on wiki* ... and therefore any alteration of this symbol by someone who acts in the spirit of anarchy, no matter how 'wrong' it might be in terms of precedence and external authority, is by definition, more authoritative than other choices. -- 61.68.128.28 (talk) 17:33, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are different symbols and each has its own meaning, my understanding is that the symbol where the lines go outside the circle is the symbol for anarchists who do not subscribe to the Platformist tradition. The symbol where the lines stay inside the circle subscribes to platformism, where anarchists do subscribe to the notion that in an anarchist society there would need to be some form of organisation (not authority) but organisation of free worker cooperatives and free consumer councils etc. or at least this is what I have been lead to believe - I think they are all beautiful —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.243.101.112 (talk) 16:21, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
