English: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, after practicing polygamy for about half a century, announced in this Official Declaration (also called the 1890 Manifesto, or the Woodruff Manifesto, after church president Wilford Woodruff) a staying of new plural marriages. About a paragraph-and-a-half of the Manifesto are excerpted here, as published in The Woman's Exponent, a periodical published by Latter-day Saint women. |
