Description
Deutsch: Südsüdostansicht der Votivkirche am Rooseveltplatz bzw. im Votivpark im 9. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Alsergrund.
Die Votivkirche wurde nach den Plänen von Heinrich von Ferstel im neogotischen Stil ab 1856 errichtet und zur Silbernen Hochzeit des Kaiserpaares am 24. April 1879 feierlich geweiht. Sie wurde als „Dankgeschenk“ (eine sogenannte Votivgabe, daher kommt der Name) errichtet, weil das Attentat am 18. Februar 1853 auf Kaiser Franz Joseph misslang: [1]. Ab 2001 wurde sie um rd. 38 Mio. Euro über 20 Jahre lang generalsaniert. Erst im April 2023 war zum ersten Mal seit Anfang der 2000er-Jahre ein freier Blick auf das Gebäude möglich. Hier ein Foto vor der Sanierung (1999): [2].
