Deutsch: Leo-Sympher-Denkmal bei Minden, Nordrhein-Westfalen: Innerhalb der Anlagen des Wasserstraßenkreuzes Minden befindet sich am Mittellandkandkanal und vor dem Informationszentrum ein Denkmal, das an den preußischen Ministerialdirektor Leo Sympher erinnert. Sympher wurde am 19. Oktober 1854 in Hann. Münden als Sohn eines hannoveranischen Offiziers geboren. Von frühester Jugend an war er mit Werra, Fulda und Weser auf das Engste vertraut.
Die Planungen und Ausführung des Mittellandkanals als Verbindung zwischen Ems, Weser und Elbe am Südrand des Norddeutschen Tieflands, insbesondere das Wasserstraßenkreuz von Weser und Mittellandkanal, sind sein Hauptwerk. Von Leo Sympher wurden im Einzugsbereich der Weser die Edertalsperre und die Diemeltalsperre mit errichtet. Diese sollten im Sommerhalbjahr Zuschusswasser in die Weser als Ersatz für die in Minden zu entnehmenden Wassermengen zur Versorgung des Kanals liefern. Nach ihm ist auch die ufernahe Sympherstraße in Minden und das Leo Sympher Kolleg in Hann. Münnden benannt. |
