Summary

Description
English: Ice house on at Walworth, County Durham, England, May 2010. It is on private property and not visible from the public highway. It was originally a cylindrical limestone-block structure with stone domed interior roof, set inside a mud bank and approached by a long arched stone passageway through the bank. The bank is now missing and the ice house exposed, probably because it is situated in an old quarry. The cylindrical ice-container is intact, but most of the entrance passage is now gone, due to collapse. The base of the cylindrical ice container is two feet lower than the passage, and the floor is flat, although this space is described as egg-shaped in the listing description. The building is late 18th-early 19th century and is Grade II listed.
