Summary

Description
English: The Jhalak Prize Award 2022

A celebration of great contemporary British writing with prize director Sunny Singh, joined by judges of the Jhalak Prize Mary Jean Chan, Chimene Suleyman and Stephen Thompson, and judges of the Jhalak Children’s and Young Adult Prize Sufiya Ahmed, Nii Ayikwei Parkes and Patrice Lawrence. The Jhalak Artists in Residence for 2022 are Elijah Vardo and Rikin Parekh.

In addition to the announcement of the winner of the Jhalak Prize and the Jhalak Children’s & Young Adult Prize, the two Jhalak Artists in Residence reveal the unique works of art created specially to serve as the 2022 winners’ trophies.

Previous Jhalak winners include Reni Eddo-Lodge, Johny Pitts and Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi.

The evening also features the 12 independent bookshops that have been championing 2022 shortlists as part of the prize’s partnership with National Book Tokens, which has been working to increase overall awareness and promotion of the 2022 nominated titles among booksellers.

Further information on Jhalak Prize celebrations, including book giveaways, video clips of the shortlisted writers and more, can be found on social media via #JhalakPrize22.
