Summary

Description
Français : Tapisserie montrant Le Camp du Drap d’Or, la rencontre entre François Ier et Henry VIII
English: Renaissance tapestry of Le Camp du Drap d’Or, the meeting of Kings Henry VIII and François Ier, circa 1520, probably Tournai. It shows the coat of arms of the commissioning family in the four corners (Gules, a fess or impaling Argent, a bend cotised sable), with two matching shields of different impaled arms on each side edge (Argent, two saltires in pale sable impaling Argent, a bend gules in sinister chief an estoile azure). Another different matching pair of shields at top and bottom. Renaissance grotto-esque candelabra in both side borders. A display of wrestling.
  • Right: King Francis I of France, holding a glove in his right hand.
  • Left: Perhaps Louise de Savoie, mother of Francis I, her hand on the shoulder of a gentleman who holds a falcon, maybe the Connétable de Bourbon, the director of combat for the celebrations. To his right, presumably Queen Claude of France showing him a ring, the prize of the event. (see https://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2014/masterworks-n09209/lot.14.html).
