Interior de la Iglesia de la Virgen de la Asunción en la ciudad de Tacotalpa estado de Tabasco Méxco. En la actualidad esta iglesia es la más antigua de Tabasco ya que su construcción inició en 1703 y culminó en 1710 cuando Tacotalpa era la capital de la provincia colonial de Tabasco. Sobrevivió a las fuertes crecientes del río de La Sierra que destruyeron gran parte de la ciudad colonial y a la campaña antirreligiosa emprendida por el entonces gobernador Tomás Garrido Canabal.

Tacotalpa is a small town in the southern Mexican state of Tabasco, the seat of the municipality of the same name. The city is located about 100 miles south of the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, and about 50 kilometers from the state capital Villahermo
