Summary

Description
English: Rear view of a Teletype Model 33 ASR showing the answer-back drum, the brown spined cylinder at the left center of the image. By breaking off spines of this drum. the message sent in response to the ASCII ENQ character could be encoded. The drum operates like a music box mechanism, with the comb of metal fingers in front of the drum reading out the message as the drum rotates.
