Deutsch: Stolpen: Kurfürstliches Wappen (1673) über dem Eingang des ehemals kurfürstlichen Amtshauses. Das Wappen ist in seiner Gestaltung einzigartig für Sachsen, da es vom Motto des englischen Hosenbandordens („HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE“ – „Ein Schelm, der Arges dabei denkt“) umgeben ist. Der Spruch weist auf die Verleihung des Ordens an die Kurfürsten Johann Georg II. (1660) und Johann Georg IV. (1693) hin.
English: A coat of arms of the Elector of Saxony dated to 1673 in Stolpen (Saxony state, Germany), over the entrance to the Electoral Amtshaus. These arms are unique for Saxony, since they bear the emblem of the English Order of the Garter, a blue garter encircling the shield, with the motto Honi soit qui mal y pense (Shamed be he who thinks evil of it). Only two electors were made knights of the order, Johann Georg II in 1660, whose arms are represented, and Johann Georg IV in 1693. |
