The empty circular niche in the semicircular tympanum above the door may once have held a relic of St Medard. The two birds are probably eagles; one features in the legend of St Medard or Medardus (a 6th century bishop of Noyon, France) in which it is said to have hovered above him to shelter him from rain. The double lancet window is of a later date than the door |
