Summary[edit]

A table showing the pattern behind a shloka, a verse-line, developed from the anustup meter, which is found both in Vedic and Classical Sanskrit prosody.

  • The "u" is a representation of "laghu" (light), or short syllable
  • The "-" is a representation of "guru" (heavy), or long syllable
  • The "u" with a "_" underneath can be either guru or laghu[clarification needed]
  • The "," is a caesura
