Summary

Description

Designed and built in Canada, the Sexton was a self-propelled artillery vehicle based on either an M3 Lee or M4 Sherman chassis, known respectively as the Ram and Grizzly in Canada. The Sexton was equivalent to the American M7 Priest and was armed with an Ordnance QF 25 pound howitzer. Built by the Montreal Locomotive Works, some 2,150 were produced between 1943 and 1945. It entered British service in September 1943 and saw British and Canadian service for the remainder of the war. The type remained in British service until 1956 and also saw service with the armies of India, Poland, Portugal and South Africa. According to ‘Preservedtanks.com’, this Sexton was acquired from the Portuguese Army via the United States. After a major restoration it has been painted to represent the first British Sexton I ‘159377’. Armourgeddon Military Museum Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire, UK
