Summary

Description
English: Seal of Thomas de Brantingham (d.1394), Bishop of Exeter 1370-94. The bishop is seated on a throne wearing a mitre, holding in his left hand a crozier and with his right hand giving a sign of benediction with two fingers. At dexter are two keys addorsed, and at sinister a sword erect, forming together the arms of the See of Exeter. Legend in Latin: S(igillum) Jo(han)nis Dei Gra(tia) Epi(scopus) Exoniensis ("seal of John by the grace of God Bishop of Exeter"); Inscribed in Latin beneath the seated figure: De Grandisono, with his arms below (Paly of six argent and azure, on a bend gules three eagles displayed or).
