Summary[edit]

File information
Description

Comparison of the least-squares regression line of Y on X (solid green) and that of X on Y (dashed green) for randomly generated data (this part is accurate, computed in Gnumeric). An ellipse representing a contour of the bivariate normal density matching the means, standard deviations, and correlation of X and Y has been added to illustrate how the former line connects the extreme left and right points on the ellipse while the latter line connects the extreme upper and lower points (this part is not accurate, the eccentricity of the ellipse having been adjusted "by eye"). The image is solely for temporary use on Talk:Linear regression, where a request for a completely accurate similar image is being made.
