Stema comunei Şag, potrivit anexei nr. 1.3, se compune dintr-un scut triunghiular cu marginile rotunjite, tăiat de o fascie undată de argint. În partea superioară, în câmp albastru, este figurat un turn de biserică, ieşind din două mănunchiuri de frunze de stejar adosate, având fiecare câte trei ghinde, toate de aur. În partea inferioară, în câmp verde, se află un cap de taur, deasupra unui fagure compus din şase hexagoane aşezate 3: 2: 1, totul de argint. Scutul este timbrat de o coroană murală de argint cu un turn crenelat.

Semnificaţiile elementelor însumate

Turla de biserică simbolizează mănăstirea aflată pe teritoriul comunei.Frunzele de stejar evocă întinsele păduri de stejar din care s-a păstrat doar o parte în jurul mănăstirii. Fascia undată reprezintă râul care străbate teritoriul comunei. Capul de taur aminteşte de o anumită rasă de bovine. Pe faţadele unor case se găseau reliefuri cu "vacile cu coarne lungi", spre mândria gospodarului. Fagurele ilustrează albinăritul, ca ocupaţie răspândită în comună, precum şi hărnicia aducătoare de belşug a localnicilor. Coroana murală cu un turn crenelat semnifică faptul că localitatea are rangul de comună.
