Summary

Description
English: Detail from "The North Prospect of Colchester... To the Hon. Richard Savage Nassau..."

This panorama was published in 1768 as the frontispiece of Philip Morant's "History and Antiquities of Colchester, in the County of Essex". Nassau was MP for Colchester from 1747 to 1754, which suggests a slightly earlier date for the engraving.

This section shows Balkerne Hill and the Roman Town Wall on the right (labelled 1), St Mary-at-the-Walls Church (labelled 2) and North Street (labelled 3). The windmill shown is actually some distance behind the church in Butt Road.
