Initially called the ‘Hornisse’ (Hornet), Hitler renamed it as the ‘Nashorn’ (Rhinoceros) in 1944. It first saw action at the Battle of Kursk, where the open Soviet countryside suited its long-range ability and it was able to take on Soviet Heavy tanks like the KV-1. Nashorns later also served well in Italy and Normandy.
This is one of only three Nashorns to survive and has recently been repainted into an accurate colour scheme and markings. It is on display in Hall 11 of the Patriot Museum Complex.
