The Cape Breton Miners’ Museum in Glace Bay pays tribute to the the region’s long and rich history of coal mining. It is home to profound stories of miners and their families and the resource that help build a nation.

The mine tour with a retired miner was eye opening. His stories were fascinating, informative as well as humorous, a really educational experience. The mine ceiling got as low as 1.07 meters (42 in) so you will have to duck down much of the way. It is easy to imagine what the miners had to tolerate during their 12 hours shifts. The stories of the mine owners’ brutality toward the workers, many only 10 years old, were unbelievable, the company store really had total control over the miners and their families.
