LOW GRADEIMBECILE IN MENTALVELOPMEXT.Where they stumble—thelimit of developmentof each type.(Reprinted from the sur-vey of Oct. 11-13.) The BineUSimon Measuring Scale for Intelligence. This Scale, which was originated about twelve years ago by Binet andSimon, two celebrated French psychologists, consists of a series of gradedquestions, or tests, by which mental development may be measured. It wasstandardized by Binet on the children of the middle class of France, andwhen introduced in the United States, was adapted for American use byDr. H. H. Goddard, of Vineland, N. J. Dr. Goddard says of the Scale: No one should be surprised that theBinet-Simon Measuring Scale for Intelligence has met with criticism and Mental Defectives in Virginia 11 opposition. It is doubtful if even its most ardent advocates read it overfor the first time without feeling that it must be impossible for such ascale to be reliable; and it is only after repeated trials and continual dis-covery of the accuracy wit
