Deutsch: Die Vorderseite zeigt ein Porträt Gottfried Hermanns im Profil nach rechts. Die lateinische Legende nennt den Anlass der Prägung, das 50-jährige Jubiläum als Doktor und Magister inkl. der Daten. Die Signatur des Medailleurs, Karl Reinhard Krüger, ist unten am Hals platziert.
Die Rückseite zeigt eine Szene in antikisiertem Stil, die als Ödipus und die Sphinx identifiziert werden kann. Die Legende verdeutlicht, dass sich Hermann gleich dem Ödipus den altertumswissenschaftlichen Rätseln stellte. Im Abschnitt unterhalb der Szene ist ein Blitzbündel platziert.
English: The front side depicts a bust of Hermann surrounded by his name and occasion for stucking this medal in Latin. The reason named is his 50th doctoral anniversary. The engraver Karl Reinhard Krüger signed below the neck.
The back side pictures a scene that one could identify as Oedipus and the sphinx. The dedication in Latin drives the comparison between Hermann and Oedipus. Both have solved a riddle, Oedipus that of the sphinx, Hermann that of his field of study. A stylized lightning bolt is shown below the scene. |
