English: This is a close-up of a plaque commemorating settler John Wesley McCormick's cabin, the site of the founding of Indianapolis. The plaque is attached to a granite boulder near the White River in White River State Park, Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the McCormick Cabin Site.
The plaque reads: "Here stood the cabin of JOHN McCORMICK one of the first settlers in central Indiana. The commissioners appointed by the legislature to select a site of the permanent seat of government of the state of Indiana met in this cabin on the seventh of June 1820 and decided upon the location for the town afterwards named INDIANAPOLIS" |
