Summary

Description
English: Throughout Africa, new protest and democracy movements are emerging. Because despite the economic upturn of many African countries, the living situation of most Africans has hardly improved. Instead, democratic principles are being restricted across continents. Thousands of people are walking the streets of Zimbabwe, South Africa, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Senegal, Nigeria, Burundi and other countries, demonstrating, tweeting and blogging for more democracy and self-determination. The Heinrich Böll Foundation and Deutsche Welle are bidding This event is an exceptional opportunity to learn first hand about the latest developments and backgrounds in many African countries. Activists from Senegal and Zimbabwe analyze in conversation with international experts and others the following questions: Who are the actors of the movements, what motivates them, what visions of a better future do they pursue? How do you articulate yourself, which channels do you use? Is a new democracy developing "off the street" - and what does this mean for democracy promotion? There will then be an opportunity to talk to the panelists and other activists from Chad, Ethiopia, Burundi and the DR Congo.
