DescriptionLaughing Buddha Budai (11949994793).jpg
Inside this shrine was this gilt edged image of the Laughing Buddha, the Taoist representaiton of happiness (the smile) and prosperity (the pot belly). The Laughing Buddha is called Budai or Pu-Tai in (Chinese, Hotei in Japanese and Bố Đại in Vietnamese. This is actually not a god per se, but rather a folkloric character.
