Summary

Description
English: King's Cross Thameslink station, 1989.
View SE on Platform A, towards Farringdon, Blackfriars and South London: 'City Widened Lines' connecting the Metropolitan, Midland and Great Northern with the South Eastern & Chatham lines through Snow Hill Tunnel. Following bomb-damage in 10/40 and the opening of a new Metropolitan station in 5/41, it continued in use by LMS and LNER services to Moorgate until 1979, then reopened in 1983 as 'King's Cross Midland City' to serve the newly electrified services from Bedford; then it was renamed 'King's Cross Thameslink' in 5/88 on inauguration of the Thameslink services through Snow Hill Tunnel. Here a class 319 dual-voltage EMU arrives at Platform B on a Down Thameslink service in the rush-hour, having been switched at Farringdon from 750 V DC third-rail to 25 kV overhead supply. (The station closed 7/12/07 on opening of the new station beneath St Pancras International).
