Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1826 Erworben mit Mittel der Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Friedrich Wilhelm III. (1770–1849) vereinte 1817 die beiden Hauptvertreter des protestantischen Glaubens in Preußen, die Lutheraner und die Reformierten, in einer Kirchenunion. Das Porträt zeigt den König auf dem Pfingstberg in Potsdam. Im Hintergrund sind die russische Kapelle und die Siedlung Alexandra zu erkennen, deren Baubeginn mit dem Entstehungsjahr des Bildes 1826 zusammenfällt.Die Figur des Königs entspricht dem Typus des offiziellen Saatsporträts, das 1814 in Paris von Francois Gerard gemalt und 1825 von Carl Begas modifiziert wurde. Ernst Gebauer (1782–1865) kopierte diesen Typus mehrfach - mit wechselnden Hintergründen oder auch nur als Brustbild. |
