Summary

Description
English: A conceptual model of J. H. Sharp's patented torque measuring wrench.

Patented in 1931, this was the first of its kind. This type of wrench is known as an indicating torque wrench. In order to be used correctly the dial must be visible and directly in the line of sight of the operator.

The wrench end of the tool is held in equilibrium by two calibrated springs. Application of torque overcomes the resistance of the springs causing the wrench end to rotate about its pivot. This rotation is transferred to the dial pointer which in turn indicates the measured torque on the dial face.
