Summary[edit]

This photo, taken in August, 2010, looks northwesterly at the data booth built into the rear wall of mortar Pit B of Battery Kellogg at Ft. Banks, Winthrop, MA.

This type of data booth was associated with the earlier mortar pits that were built; later on, these booths became small, free-standing concrete structures, about 10 ft. square and seven feet tall. The armored steel door to the booth is to the right inside the darkened doorway. The viewing slit allowed the soldiers inside the booth to see what was going on in the pit. The pit is now heavily overgrown and used by the Town of Winthrop to store surplus granite curbing.
