English: Very young, purple-black fruit of Datura metel 'Fastuosa' shortly after the fall of the calyx, corolla and pistil. Note the botryoidal (= resembling the texture of a bunch of grapes) surface of the embryonic fruit, which bears at its tip a prominent light brown scar left by the abcission of the pistil. Note also the inner, cream-coloured ring of tissue derived from the base of the fallen corolla and the outer, green ring of tissue derived from the base of the fallen calyx. On both inner and outer rings may seen slightly darker patches of tissue which are scars left by vascular bundles severed by the abcission of corolla and calyx. Note further the green colour of the pedicel (which has begun to thicken), contrasting with the purple-black stems of the plant and the purple-black fruit itself. To the left of the fruit may be seen a tiny flower bud between two equally tiny leaves and also a pale brown, rather stellate scar left by the fall of an aborted flower bud.
