Summary

Description

Ball-and-stick model of the hydroxide ion or the hydroxyl radical, depending on whether it has a negative charge of 1- or a neutral charge respectively. Hydroxide is the conjugate base of water, and therefore one of the most common bases. Hydroxyl is short-lived as a free radical that is often responsible for cell damage.
