Notes The Pellinen publication talks of a book from 1989 that describes this painting and notes that it’s in a private collection. Both the drypoint and line engraving version and the full The Farmer’s Wife and the Poor Devil with its Twins have been in the care of Ateneum for seemingly a hundred years. This means there has certainly been a third version of this out in private collection in 1989. That would be much earlier than any of the known Simberg forgeries. Then this image is from a printed postcard on sale too, further strengthening the case there really is an authentic color version in private collection and not just a forgery.
