DescriptionHotel Jess and Depot Hill blocks, Main Street, The Flats, Holyoke, Massachusetts.jpg
English: A view of the few remaining commercial blocks from the Depot Hill area of The Flats neighborhood of Holyoke, Massachusetts. To the right may be seen the Hotel Jess; an Italianate style building originally known as the Perkins Block, it once housed the B.F. Perkins Co. which produced early testing equipment for Alexander Graham Bell. The building once held the first telephone exchange in Western Massachusetts, operated by Bell's Springfield Telephone and Automatic Signal Company division. On June 15, 1878 it became one of two sites, the other in Springfield, to maintain the first commercial toll line.
