Summary

Description The Obverse (front) of the Great Seal of Elizabeth I. The Great Seal was used by the Chancery, the Tudor Civil service, to show that the document attached was ordered in the Queen’s name. The pattern ( or matrix ) for this seal was produced by the artist Nicholas Hilliard in 1586. This image is from the collections of The National Archives . Image no.4561326 .
