Summary

Description Scetch of a gravity corer. The system consists of a lead weight (1-3 to, yellow) on top of a sequence of steel tubes (about 5 m in length, 9 to 12 cm diameter). It is used to sample the ocean floor from research vessels to recover sediment cores. The graf at the bottom shows an example record of a sediment echosounder (ParaSound, Atlas Electronic GmbH) which is used as pre-site survey to find suitable coring stations.
