John Penn (writer) was the grandson of William Penn, the Founder of the Province of Pennsylvania, USA. John Penn was Lord of the Manor of Stoke Poges and had built the Stoke Park mansion house. St Giles' church at the time being within the grounds of the Stoke Park estate. A Member of Parliament and High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire.
