Summary

The following image is of my personally owned British military surplus flak jacket carrier and internal amour. This image is submitted to illustrate the two components an average flak jacket. On the left is the carrier without the side laces that ensured it was wrapped securely around the abdomen. On the right, is the internal ballistic nylon armor sealed in unknown plastic material most likely to prevent the several layers of the nylon from absorbing perspiration.

Nylon does not absorb moisture. The unknown plastic material is just wrapping by the manufacturer. Sheesh!! Roxy the grumpy dog. wooF 18:56, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

Nylon fibers doesn't absorb moisture. However, moisture, sweat, and gunk can very much become trapped between nylon fibers, and soil the armor insert through extensive use, reducing its ballistic effectiveness. Case in point, modern soft armor inserts made partly or wholly from Kevlar or UHMWPE also comes wrapped and sealed in an impermeable casing to prevent dirt and moisture ingress from degrading the material over time, as moisture and gunk can act as lubricant and abrasive media respectively, helping bullets or fragments cut through the ballistic fibers much easier.
