Elevación de la Real Casa de Moneda de Santiago, dibujo de Agustín Cavallero, 1800. Archivo General de Indias, Sevilla.

Real Palacio de la Moneda (obra neoclásica del arquitecto Joaquín Toesca y Ricci, construida entre 1784 y 1805).

La posición del Palacio de Gobierno, aún cuando se encuentra separado de la Alameda por un bloque urbanizado, desde muy temprano incita a considerar la posibilidad de convertirlo en el foco de una perspectiva compuesta en el eje de una nueva avenida, proyectada en perpendicular al sur de la Alameda, de tal manera que entre ambos trazados mayores se forme un cruce fundamental para la organización formal de la ciudad.

El edificio de La Moneda se acompaña de dos espacios abiertos, al norte la Plaza de La Constitución y al sur la Plaza de La Libertad, actualmente Plaza de La Ciudadanía.

Alameda por medio se ubica siempre la Plaza Bulnes
